Part of the University of Southampton, Winchester School of Art is one of the UK's leading art and design institutions. Each year its annual degree shows see the whole campus turned into one large exhibition celebrating the diversity of students' work. A highlight is the fashion show, at which fashion and textile design students get the chance to exhibit their work.
As well as the annual catwalk show at the Great Hall in Winchester, our fashion graduates have the opportunity to showcase their collections at some of the most prestigious student fashion shows in the UK, such as New Designers, Free Range and Graduate Fashion Week.
These opportunities provide our students with valuable exposure and the chance to build professional contacts and networks and meet prospective employers. They also provide hands-on experience of the organisational, practical and teamworking skills necessary for future success.
The BA in Fashion and Textile Design offers exciting opportunities in fashion design, knitwear for fashion, woven textiles and printed textiles. Our strong links with industry ensure we are up to date with current industry needs, and our dedicated studios are fully-equipped with a wide range of cutting-edge machinery and accessories.
Our graduates are sought-after in the fashion industry and many have gone on to work for major global designers, such as Collection XIIX, Alberta Ferretti and Vivienne Westwood.
Verity Pemberton is just one of our many graduates who have gone on to success in the industry. After completing her BA she secured paid placements at Mulberry and Orla Kiely and gained experience making tour costumes for Florence and the Machine. She now works for Urban Outfitters as assistant designer on womenswear.
She says: "I really enjoyed my time at Winchester... the crits made me look at my designs in a different way that helped me to execute my collection for the better. I also received excellent technical support with some of the more technical aspects of my collection."
